Romanian Music (traditional music)

Postby daanpeters on 14 May 2008, 05:59

Fellow Romanian students

I would recommend everybody to listen sometime at the traditional Romanian music.
My Romanian girlfriend always buys me Romanian CD’s.
And I became big fan of the traditional music.
If there are some fellow students who are interested, do not hesitate and send me an email. I can give you some tiles of nice CD’s.

Currently I am listening: 'Meet Romania - Famous Folk Songs from Muntenia and Oltenia Counties'
http://www.passiondiscs.com/e_pages/romanian_e/edc185.htm
I can recommend this CD to everybody.

Keep on the nice work Florin.
I enjoy every episode.

Mulțumesc.
Daan
With Kindly regards

Hi,

I would recommend also, especially for those who have not heard, or heard very little Romanian music, on this page there are some outstanding Romanian folk music pieces:

I would also like to make a couple of recommendations: First of all, a band included in the list posted by Florin above, Phoenix. This, believe it or not, is what inspired me to learn Romanian! This is a rock band heavily influenced by folklore. Also I would like to recommend a particular track by the band Celelalte Cuvinte, "Fantana Suspinelor" which features the poem "Era o Fintina" by Elena Farago read by the late Florian Pittis. This song and samples by Phoenix are available for streaming here
